Ayurvedic cooking techniques emphasize the use of fresh, whole foods, herbs, and spices, each possessing unique healing properties. Ayurveda, originating from ancient India, views each person as a unique combination of three doshas, or energies, known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Spices not only add flavor but also have therapeutic properties. Turmeric, for example, is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, while cumin aids digestion.


Herbs are also an essential component of Ayurvedic cooking. They are used both for their flavor and medicinal properties. Holy basil, known as Tulsi, is highly revered for its immune-boosting and stress-reducing properties. Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb, helps to balance the body's response to stress and promotes overall well-being.
